Public Speaking

Karen Mack Management Consultants LLC

facilitator speakingPublic speaking opportunities are viewed and avoided as if it were a dreaded disease. What's the general perception of public speaking amongst your colleagues? How do you feel when you have to make a presentation in front of a group? Does it make a difference if the audience is comprised strangers or not? Most people are a bit anxious when "put in the spotlight."

Actually, a little anxiety is good; it's the overwhelming fear that prevents most people from taking advantage of a skill that could positively catapult their career. Effective Presentations guide trainees through a painless process guaranteed to decrease discomfort. Participants develop a step by step strategy to present with power and confidence.

Facilitator TipTip: Mingle with your audience prior to your presentation.
Mingling has several benefits including...

  1. Satisfies their curiosity and eases their anxiety,
  2. Provides snippets of information you may be able to use during your presentation,
  3. Increases your credibility,
  4. You appear "interested in them,"
  5. Eases your anxiety.

Communication Seminars

Effective Presentations (EP)
Public Speaking and Presentation Skills

Public speaking is a catalyst to career advancement, yet many shy away from opportunities to present in public.
The most prevalent areas of concern are:

effective communicators

  1. managing anxiety,
  2. maintaining confidence,
  3. preparing the presentation,
  4. responding to questions,
  5. managing the audience, and
  6. delivering with ease.
Videotaping is integral to training; participants will see themselves as an audience would see them. A minimum of two days is suggested to adequately cover the course material; three days provide opportunities for extensive practice and coaching. EP is most valuable to anyone delivering messages to the public, whether this involves sales presentations, delivering briefs, presenting proposals, or making speeches to individuals or large audiences.

What to Expect: Effective Presentations encompasses everything related to the art of public speaking. Areas of improvement are identified via real-time coaching to heighten the presenter's awareness. This session addresses public speaking from planning/preparation through delivery dilemmas, to making a positive and lasting impression. A significant part of training includes real-time coaching interspersed with taping and video review. This process ensures development and success.
