Team Attitude

Karen Mack Management Consultants LLC

team hand shakeApathy has replaced empathy; the attitude of teamwork has ceased to exist. It's difficult at best to work in an atmosphere where it appears that "nobody cares." Teamwork has ceased to exist; self-interest is the prevailing emotion. When attitudes diminish to the point where collecting a paycheck is the only priority, immediate intervention is imperative.

There may be numerous reasons why a pessimistic attitude prevails; some of which may be out of management's control. Uncovering the cause and working toward resolution is a lot less expensive than allowing apathy to run amok. Committing to Team Connections and/or Training Retreats are recommended the initial step in a long-term, turn-around process.

Facilitator TipTip: Create a "suggestion box" to collect teambuilding ideas - begin to implement suitable ideas as soon as possible.

Committing to Team Connections (CTC)
Teambuilding

Today's work environment is comprised heavily of self-directed teams, many of which experience only a modicum of success.
There are three basic reasons why teams don't succeed:
team working

  1. teams are created in name only, with no true purpose or goal;
  2. interpersonal conflicts and personnel problems are tolerated with no deliberate effort toward resolution; and,
  3. previous team efforts have not been equitably compensated.
This course helps groups identify the challenges unique to their team and determine the best steps to overcome potential problems.

What to Expect: Responsibility and accountability are critical to the success of a team and are the underlying theme of Committing to Team Connections. Communication, interpersonal skills, and emotional management are components that are central to this seminar. This course is a combination of lecture, group discussion, and exercises designed to help teams learn to help themselves. Please note that teambuilding is an ongoing process; therefore, a six-hour training day will only identify basic principles. To successfully promote change, consider a series of customized programs to produce desired results.

Training Retreats/Partnering Sessions
One or Multiple Day Training Facilitation

facilitate office retreatRetreats are designed to develop work relationships, overcome underlying issues, and build cohesive teams. Discovering more about co-workers, while developing cultural competencies, are targeted outcomes of these sessions. Success increases when retreats are held offsite in an atmosphere to encourage people to "open up." While retreats may not offer a single source solution, they will offer a nonthreatening avenue to begin to work toward harmonious resolution. Communication, interpersonal skills, and emotional management are training components incorporated into many retreats.

Partnering Sessions are unique "team building" opportunities for parties involved with major construction projects. Anyone in this business knows the range of "rocks in the road" that are integral to getting the job done within budget and on time. Customarily, a day is devoted to meeting new partners, becoming familiar with "acquaintances", and developing relationships that will garner successful interaction throughout the duration of a project. While formal in design, the day is facilitated in an informal manner to encourage interaction, invite discussion, and lay the foundation to build trust. Contact me for ideas for your session.

What to Expect: Retreats and Partnering Sessions are customized based on desired outcomes. Experience has proven that learning takes place when people are relaxed and enjoying the process; therefore, anticipate a variety of activities. When sensitive issues need to be addressed, they are presented in a nonthreatening manner as "rules of the day" are established by participants. Retreats have served as the initial step in organizational teambuilding.
